Come grab some needed school supplies for the new school year! This event will is hosted by 3 nonprofits: Dreaming in Color, The Carodine Group, and Showered with Grace.

Gelli printing is a playful and colorful way to make art. You roll paint onto a soft, squishy plate, press paper on top, and lift a surprise print. Use leaves, stencils, or anything with texture to make fun shapes and patterns—every print is one of a kind. We’ll provide the paint, paper, and some textures to try, but feel free to bring your own leaves or textured items too. Just bring your creativity and get ready to have fun making art!

Veteran Writing Workshop

Instructors: Dina Greenberg and Susan Polizzotto

There is nothing more powerful or more sacred than the Stories We Carry. In this narrative/visual art workshop for military veterans, we will use in-class writing prompts to bring your stories to the forefront.

Experimentation in prose and poetry is equally encouraged. Students will express personal experiences through writing and art, exploring hybrid writing and ink art inspired by sumi-e painting and calligraphy. Combine writing and imagery into an autobiographical keepsake in this one day workshop, and connect with the power of writing for creativity and well-being. No previous writing or art experience is required.

Linocut Printmaking Workshop with Tony J. Jackson

Presented by: 

Tony J. Jackson, Professor of Fine Arts at Lenoir Community College, Member of the NCCCS AFA Board of Directors, and Board Member of the Jacksonville Arts Council

Join internationally exhibited printmaker Tony J. Jackson for a one-day, hands-on Linocut Printmaking Workshop. Tony’s work has been shown in Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, Australia, and is included in several permanent collections across the United States.

This introductory class will begin with a brief overview of the history of printmaking. Participants will then have the opportunity to design, carve, and print their own original linocut artwork to take home.

No prior experience is necessary—just bring your creativity and curiosity!

Ocean Jazz City Festival Presents Black Beaches During Segregation!

“Black Beaches during Segregation” is a powerful and poignant art exhibit by Rik Freeman that sheds light on the history of Black communities’ coastal experiences during a time of racial segregation. Through a blend of vivid imagery and historical context, Freeman’s collection illuminates the resilience and cultural significance of Black beach communities,. The Ocean City Beach Community is included in the series.  The exhibit captures the beauty, pride, and challenges faced by African Americans who created and maintained vibrant social spaces amidst the harsh realities of segregation.

“Black Beaches during Segregation” is a tribute to the Black experience and the enduring legacy of community in the face of adversity.

Work will be on display June 27th- July 3rd. The Arts Council will be open June 30th- July 3rd from 11am-5pm to give everyone a chance to experience this wonderful show!
